Raised in Romania in a Jewish family during Nazism, after the war Marion Baruch left a Stalinist art education in Bucharest and moved to Jerusalem, where she studied under a Bauhaus professor and had her first exhibitions in Tel Aviv. In 1955, she moved to Rome. In Ambiante-Contenitore (1969) - the first of her radical design works - she made a huge ball of Plexiglas, had a man climb in, and sent it rolling down a street. Her sculptures from the 80's - tongue-in-cheek resemblances to television sets, a shopping cart encasing a metal block and a series of banners - move Minimalism's interest in industrial materials to the consumerist world. Following which, in 1989, she creates the fictional brand Name Diffusion (which she registers as an Italian and a French company) to organize artistic actions in life - works that will come to be described as relational.
